In 2003, 14-year old Ghyslain Raza went on an amateur video imitating a Jedi Knight from Star Wars. One of his classmates posted the video online without Raza knowing and began a massive cyberbullying attack as the video went viral. People have told him to commit suicide.
Raza, now 25 and a McGill University law graduate, feels that he needs to come out and speak about his story, especially since there have been high-profile cases in which victims have committed suicide.
He feels that schools have the obligation to be help those cyberbullied and that victims themselves should “overcome their shame” and seek guidance. “You’ll survive. You’ll get over it. You’re not alone. You are surrounded by people who love you.”
