BUFFALO (WIVB) – Erie County lawmakers holding a public hearing, Monday afternoon, drawing comments on a proposed cyber-bullying law.
New York State has no law prohibiting cyber-bullying. Some local lawmakers believe it’s even more important, after the death of Jamey Rodemeyer, to pass this law. Rodemeyer committed suicide after abuse from bullies.
Erie County Legislator Edward Rath is co-sponsoring the bill.
Rath says, “by approving a local law prohibiting cyber-bullying, my hope is that youths will think twice about how they act toward their peers online and be deterred from posting messages that can be considered cyber-bullying.”
The hearing is scheduled for 1:00 pm in the Erie County Legislature’s office.
