95% of teens aged 12-17 are internet users as of August 2011.
- 70% of teen internet users say they go online daily.
- 40% of teen internet users say they go online several times a day.
- 24% of teen internet users say they go online about once a day.
- 24% of teen internet users say they go online weekly.
- The other 6% of teen internet users say they go online every few weeks or even less.
69% of teens own their own computer or smartphone device. 80% of these teens are on social networking sites.
Older teens are more likely to go online with greater frequency than younger teens.
- 53% of teen Internet users ages 14-17 go online several times a day.
- 30% of teen Internet users ages 12-13 go online several times a day.
The average US teen sends 420 texts a week, and girls aged 14-17 send an average of 100 a day.
Social Network and Twitter Usage Among Teens:
- 80% of online teens use social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, which is equivalent to 76% of the population.
- 16% of online teens use Twitter. Almost all Twitter users also use other online social networking sites.
- 88% of online teens ages 14-17 use online social networking sites (like Facebook and MySpace).
- 17% of online teens ages 14-17 use Twitter.
- 64% of online teens ages 12-13 use online social networking sites.
- 12% of online teens ages 12-13 use Twitter.
Different Networking Accounts Among Teens:
- 93% of teen social media users have a Facebook account.
- 24% of teen social media users have a MySpace account.
- 12% of teen social media users have an account on Twitter.
- 7% of teen social media users have an account on a Yahoo site.
- 6% of teen social media users have an account on YouTube.
- 2% of teen social media users have an account on each of the following: Skype, MeetMe (formerly MyYearbook), and Tumblr.
- 1% of teen social media users have an account on Google Buzz.
- 41% of teen social media users have accounts on multiple sites. 99% of these teens have an account on Facebook.
