On Tuesday, Mississippi General Attorney Jim Hood issued a warning to parents and teens about improper behavior on social networking sites, especially on Instagram. He warned about the creation of false accounts to post illegal pictures of girls for the purpose of making derogatory comments.

“The message for anyone doing this is that are penalties for posting sexually explicit photos of minors and for bullying or harassing behavior,” Hood said. Such behaviors might incur charges of child exploitation, distribution and possession of child pornography, sexting, and cyberbullying.

He encouraged parents and teens to converse on this topic and suggested few tips to help guide the conversation, such as the legal consequences of sexting, permanence of posting pictures online, and reporting suspected crimes.
