Recently, there have been pictures put up on Instagram by girls as young as 9 years of age. The thing they don’t realize is that even though Instagram is the super popular way to share photos of anything with friends, it is also a super popular way to share hate. This new generation of girls rate each other on appearance, and shun the “loser” of the pageant. One ten year old is able to make a beauty grid in five minutes with photos of her friends. She didn’t realize what she was doing until afterwards.
Dr. Elizabeth Gosch, a child psychologist, warns that this negative feedback about appearance at such a period in the lives of these girls will definitely have negative effects on the futures of these girls.
Although Facebook does have a policy for an age limit of 13, most young children can easily bypass that policy by faking their age due to the fact that Facebook doesn’t check their age.
