The state of Hawaii has passed four new laws in an effort to control the cyber bullying epidemic that has infiltrated this small island. It is reported that over half of all Hawaiian teenagers have experienced harassment, threats, and anonymous attacks on the Internet. The Hawaiian government has realized that it needs to take serious measures to protect its citizens from the dangers of cyber crimes. The bills, passed by Gov. Neil Abercrombie, are aimed at fighting cyber bullying, preventing adults from obtaining nude and pornographic pictures from minors, and allowing out-of-state records to be subpoenaed in criminal cases. This helps put offenders behind bars because much of the evidence needed to prosecute, such as cell phone records, are held in mainland corporations.
