Ellen Page is the latest celebrity to be the target of Twitter threats. The Oscar-nominated actress reported receiving two death threats via Twitter, sparking an investigation by the Los Angeles police department. A crazed fan tweeted menacing messages such as “I’m going to murder Ellen Page. She’s dead.” and “Ellen Page if you continue to date Alexander [Skarsgard] I will K-1-L-L you in public in the next year … Be it in a club, in a restaurant, or when you’re signing autographs.” The tweets, possibly sent from two accounts, have since been deleted. The LAPD has sought a search warrant for account-tracing information from Twitter and are also investigating threatening calls targeting the actress back in June.

“The Internet makes it easier with YouTube, with Twitter, because these stalkers believe that the celebrities are actually talking directly to them,” said Rhonda Saunders, a Los Angeles County assistant district attorney. “They think that they have a relationship.”
