Police officers have won praise for running workshops that aim to tackle the problem of cyber-bullying amongst primary pupils.

The initiative was developed by police officers from Leith who were keen to address growing concerns over what has been dubbed “the dark side” of modern technology by one local teacher.

Sergeant Colin Johnstone, from the Safer Neighbourhood Unit, at Leith Police Station said: “They’ve all got mobile phones and internet access and they already have a very good knowledge. We felt it was important to raise their awareness when they’re using their mobile phones or using the internet to think about their actions.”

“We simply wanted to get the message across that some of the actions that they take online could have an impact on someone else, and that there are people out there, trusted adults, where young people can get help from.”
