A hockey coach of unparalleled greatness, nine-time state champ, beloved by his players, and member of the Illinois Hockey Hall of Fame has been sued for cyberbullying. Bob Melton, New Trier Hockey Club coach, was accused of anonymously posting vicious attacks on a hockey website against Wilmette Hockey Association president Chuck Smith and his family. This was possibly due to the firing of Melton by Smith and 10 others as WHA’s hockey director.
Smith sued Melton claiming defamation of character, emotional distress, and invasion of privacy.
Melton, though, says that all of the allegations made were “totally false” and that the New Trier Hockey Club conducted a thorough investigation into the incident, finding nothing the matter.
