Tragedy struck Lancaster County when an 11-year old girl committed suicide due to what her family called, “intense cyber bullying.” Jasmyn Smith, who was about to begin sixth grade at Park Elementary School, died from self-inflicted wounds. It has been reported that she choked herself with a belt after being heavily bullied at school and online.
Cyber bullying is an epidemic hurting the youth around the world. A tragedy like this should never happen to anyone. Smith’s family held a vigil in memory of her, with blue anti-bullying ribbons being given out. Hopefully something so sad can help send a message that cyber bullying needs to be stopped.
